Celebrate Black History Month with a rich array of events and resources throughout Edmonton. Join NASA EDI and fellow community members in honoring the achievements and experiences of Black Canadians. Throughout the month, there are different ways to actively engage in listening, learning, and appreciating Black Canadian histories and the cultures of newcomers.
- Attend the Alberta Federation of Labour's free screening of We Are the Roots, a documentary film about Alberta's Black Settlers on Friday, February 23 at 6:00 pm at the Ironworkers Hall (10512 122 Street).
- The upcoming Pan-African Symposium: Decolonizing the University Curriculum is a two-day event (February 28 an 29) taking place at the Lister Conference Centre and online. This gathering will feature a diverse group of Black thinkers, professionals, academics, students, and community members sharing insights on addressing anti-Black racism and its legacies.
- You can experience the vibrant creativity of Edmonton's Black communities at 5 Artists 1 Love, a Black History Month celebration showcasing the works of five talented Black artists. Explore their creations at the Art Gallery exhibit until March 3.
- For a thought-provoking cinematic experience, mark your calendar for the official screening of The Book of S.H.E. Documentary at the TELUS World of Science IMAX Theatre on February 29. Immerse yourself in the stories and perspectives that illuminate Black history and culture.
